Light of the World vs Festival of Lights
I have continued reading my book about praying the names of Jesus and it is really interesting. The name I am on this week is Jesus the Light of the World. I am always reminded about this name at Christmas time when you see the candles and Christmas lights, however it is a little early for Christmas and we have to get through Halloween first. Here are some of the verses -
John 8:12 I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
Matt 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A city on the a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in Heaven.
It is so cool that Jesus is the Light of the World. So many people are in darkness and seeking for the light. So many cultures and religions have half truths but not the full truth of Jesus. Yet, people are seeking for something. I have been meditating on this name for a couple of days and yesterday I looked out my window and saw that our neighbors have their Christmas lights on. I thought "Jumping the gun? Or a little eager?" But then I realized that they are Indo Canadians and that they are celebrating Diwali.
A little history of Diwali - Diwali is one of the most celebrated festivals in India. It usually happens close to Halloween. It is also known as "the Festival of Lights" because it is a common practice to light candles. It is celebrated by both Hindus and Sikhs. The celebration also remembers Lord Ram and his return into the Ayodhya Kingdom in India. There are also other gods and goddesses that are worshipped during this time (just google it and you can learn more).
I thought how ironic that their festival is called the "Festival of lights". Wow! What if during this festival they saw the Light of the World . . . aka . . . Jesus. People are searching out there, in all different ways. Please join with me and pray that maybe Indo-Canadians and Indians will find Jesus over this time. Jesus is the true light!
I also thought what if while they are remembering Lord Ram and the return he made to his kingdom, that Jesus would return to his Kingdom in their lives. What if Jesus' Kingdom totally invaded! That would be sweet! Bring it on!
Again I urge you to please join with me to pray for these lost people, Also remember Kap and Kartar in India because they are probably surrounded by this. Let Jesus' Light shine in all of us!!
One last note - Could you imagine a 5 day festival celebrating Jesus . . . The light of the World!?! That would be some party!

Denise, thanks for your thoughts. Really sounds like a great book. I know for me it's easy to miss the basics ie. the name of Jesus and all that is behind it, but it's where the power of God lies eh? Very cool connection with the Indian celebration. Keep writing, girl. You've got some real talent, and it's great to find out what God's been showing you. Love you lots
