Long Term Vision vs Short Term Vision

Well it has been another interesting week in the life of a TOC. I actually only worked for 2 days this week. So you can pray that I would get some more work. But this week I was contemplating long term vision vs short term vision in a number of different ways.

Number 1. So my wisdom teeth have finally come through. I have been trying to avoid the dentist for awhile but when I start to become dependent on advil, I rethought it and make an appointment. So I found out I had some cavities and I had to got a wisdom tooth pulled. I wasn't very excited about it, first the pain and second the pain in my wallet. I don't have medical right now so I have shell out a pretty penny for all of this to happen. But I realized that I am thinking on such a short time scale. I stopped in at my grandparents this week and told them about my teeth and my grandfather really encouraged me to take care of my teeth. He told me to think long term. He is 83 and he still has his own teeth. Wow!! It made me think. Do I want to have my teeth when I am 83 and my conclusion was yes! So it is better to shell out the money now than let and have to get dentures.

Number 2. I was TOCing at a middle school this week and I was talking to this grade 9 girl and she told me that she was $100 away from her goal of $4000. I was pretty impressed that she saved that much money up, but when I asked her what she was going to do with it my thoughts quickly changed. She is going to spend all 4000 buck on a Louis Vuitton hand bag!!! That is outrageous!! I couldn't believe it. I told her that she should save it for a car, or her education or traveling. But she declined my advice.

So my challenge for you and myself is "How are you thinking?" . . . Are you thinking long term or short term? And I think we have to do both, but I know that I get caught up in the short term. I started to think about where I give my money and where I spend my money. Am I thinking long term or short term? Maybe I need to re-evaluate. Maybe we all do. These are just some thought running through my head. Let me know what you think.
